Ni-modified hexaaluminate oxides, BaNiyAl12-yO19-|?(y = 0.3, 0.6, 0.9 and 1.0), were prepared and characterized using XRD, XPS, TPR and TGA techniques. The series of hexaaluminate oxides BaNiyAl12-yO19-|?exhibited the same crystal structure and similar reduction stability. A pure hexaaluminate oxide BaNiyAl12-yO19-|?phase could form only when y value is at 0
